In 2004, Vedanta Aluminium Ltd. (VAL) started work on a major Greenfield Aluminium Smelter with capacity of 5,00,000 TPY at Jharsuguda, Orissa.

HDO was awarded contract for two packages:

• Fume Treatment Plant: HDO received order for 6 Fume Treatment Plants (FTP); 2 for Potrooms and 2 for Anode Baking Ovens.
  Fume treatment plant is one of the most important areas in smelter plants that use prebaked anode technology. HDO tied up with Chalieco of China for executing this project. HDO was responsible for complete site activities for the Fume treatment plant including:
  • Supply, fabrication & erection of ducting network and structurals
  • Two 50 meter high steel chimneys
  • Erection of imported equipments
  • Complete civil work including four 80 meter high Chimneys and eight concrete silos of 3000 MT cap each.
• In-plant Air & Water Piping System: The project involved supply & installation of complete circulating water and compressed air network for the whole plant. This comprised of:
  • 57Kms of piping, both underground and above ground
  • Valve less gravity filters
  • Softeners and instrumentation & control for the various pump houses.

In-spite of local issues and difficult weather conditions like extreme monsoon, HDO has executed the work and the last FTP is in the completion stage. The piping project has been completed.

Accomplishments:

• This is HDO’s first Fume Treatment Plant project and marks HDO’s entry into this market
• Due to our performance in this project, VAL placed a repeat order for Air & Water piping for 100 kms of piping in their Plant 2 at Jharsuguda. The order is worth INR 50 Crore.
