Chennai Metropolitan WSSB - 300 MLD Water Treatment Plant
Chennai Mertopolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (CMWSSB) responsible for development and regulation of water supply and sewage services in the Chennai Metropolitain Areas.During early 1990s the raw water was received from Redhills Lake and treated in the water treatment plant at Kilpauk having a capacity of 270 MLD. In 1995, under First Chennai project, CMWSSB awarded HDO the entire EPC for a 300 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Red hills to augment city supply.
This was the largest WTP HDO had worked on at the time. The treatment scheme comprised of the following:
- Stilling Chamber
- Clariflocculator
- Rapid Gravity Sand Filters
- Chlorination system comprising vacuum chlorinators and booster pumps
HDO also provided:
- Chemical dosing system: for alum preparation which was used as coagulating agent in the clariflocculator
- Sludge Handling system: for handling sludge generated from the clariflocculator
The plant was successfully commissioned and handed over to CMWSSB in 1996. Also, HDO provided Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of the plant for 9 months on special request from the client. This was not a part of the original contractual agreement.
This plant is still operational running satisfactorily.
Accomplishments:
- Successfully completed HDO’s largest water treatment plant of capacity of 300 MLD
- Future business obtained from CMWSSB due superior quality of work and excellent client relationship maintained by the HDO team
