Chennai Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd. (CPCL), formerly known as Madras Refineries Ltd. (MRL), awarded HDO the job of design and construction of 2.5 MGD (9.6 MLD) Reverse Osmosis Plant.

The entire project - from feasibility studies to design, erection and commissioning was executed by Hindustan Dorr-Oliver on a Turnkey basis.

At the time, the plant was reputed as Asia’s first large scale sewage to water recovery plant.

The plant comprised of:

• Biological Treatment – Aeration Tank, Bio-Clarifier
• Hydro-treator, Pressurized Solution feed (PSF), DMF, Cartridge Filters
• Ammonia Striper and recarbonation system
• RO System

The entire plant was automated requiring minimum manual intervention. The plant was successfully commissioned and handed over to CPCL in 1994 and has been running successfully since commissioning.

Accomplishments:

• Successfully completed HDO’s first project for recovery of sewage water using Reverse Osmosis Membrane Technology
• HDO was awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of the plant after the successful commissioning
