Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation awarded the EPC contract of the 40 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Nanjundapuram to HDO.

HDO teamed up with SFC Environmental technologies to obtain the cyclic activated sludge technology “C-Tech” / SBR technology for this project. C-Tech was used as this technology provided highest efficiency for the entire biological process in a single step and eliminated all the inefficiencies associated with a continous process. The complete biological treatment process takes place in a single reactor; hence the name Single batch Reactor (SBR).

The project comprised of:

• Pumping station & receiving chamber
• Wet well and pump house
• Inlet screen chamber
• Screen chambers
• Degritting chamber
• Cyclic activated sludge process/ SBR process
• Decanting Mechanism
• Excess Sludge pumps
• Chlorine contact tank
• Sludge sump

In addition to above, Operation & Maintenance (O&M) for a period of 5 years will be undertaken by HDO after satisfactory commissioning and handing over of plant.

Accomplishments:

• 30-40% power saving obtained as input power will be automatically controlled based on oxygen uptake of the STP feed
• Drastic reduction in civil cost as secondary clarifier will not be required in this process
• Reduction in manpower due to complete automation achieved using PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) system ; complete operations can be monitored from a remote location
• Concurrent nitrification – denitrification and phosphorus removal to make water safe for discharge
